Heinz Big Soup World Club Challenge
Leeds Rhinos vs Manly Seas Eagles, Headingley Carnegie Stadium
Headingley Carnegie Stadium will host its greatest ever club game with confirmation that the Heinz Big Soup World Club Challenge between Super League Champions Leeds Rhinos and NRL winners Manly Sea Eagles will take place at the world-famous venue on Friday 17th February, kick off 8pm.
It will be the second time that Leeds and Manly have clashed for the world title, with Manly taking the spoils in 2009 when they beat the Rhinos 28-20 at Elland Road in front of a crowd of 32,569.
The 2012 Heinz Big Soup World Club Challenge will be the fifth time that Leeds have taken on the NRL Champions in eight years with wins over Canterbury in 2005 and Melbourne Storm in 2008. The previous four games having all taken place at Elland Road however now Headingley Carnegie will host the game for the first time.
Headingley Carnegie, which is one of only four venues still in existence from the first ever season of Rugby League back in 1895, hosted the first ever Challenge Cup Final between St Helens and Batley back in 1897 and the World Cup Final in 1970 between Great Britain and Australia. However, this will be the biggest ever home game for Leeds since the ground was first opened in 1890.
