Leeds Loves Rugby

17th February 2012

Leeds Loves Rugby returns for 2012 with the biggest club match ever to take place at Headingley Carnegie Stadium since it opened in 1890! Join in the celebrations this February as the Rugby League World Club Challenge returns to Leeds for the fifth time in eight years.

Headingley Carnegie Stadium will host its greatest ever club game with confirmation that the Heinz Big Soup World Club Challenge between Super League Champions Leeds Rhinos and NRL winners Manly Sea Eagles will take place at the world-famous venue on Friday 17th February, kick off 8pm.

It will be the second time that Leeds and Manly have clashed for the world title, with Manly taking the spoils in 2009 when they beat the Rhinos 28-20 at Elland Road in front of a crowd of 32,569.

To celebrate this clash of the rugby titans, the Leeds Loves Rugby festival will kickstart with a series of events in schools across Leeds. There will also be a civic reception on 16th Feb with dignitaries from the UK and Australia meeting at Leeds Civic Hall to celebrate Leeds Rhinos’ fifth Super League title and to welcome the Australian team to Leeds. A gala dinner will take place at the stadium on the evening of the 16th.
